Write or Die Wednesdays: Time After Time

Welcome to Write or Die Wednesdays: A Writer's Link-Up! We are Vashelle and Mia inviting you to partake in some creative writing with us each week.

If you are new to this link-up and are wondering what Write or Die is all about, check it out here!

Last week's link-up was a bloomin' good time! How can anyone look at and talk about flowers, and even pertain them to the human experience, and NOT feel good?

This week's prompt is as follows:

Happy writing!

OK, I'm going to cheat a little bit. I was born in the 1980s, so I did live through that time period, BUT I was too young to enjoy it. I would love to travel back to the 80s as an adult.

The FASHION:
The bright, neon colors. The spandex. The poofy shoulder pads. Acid wash jeans. You're totally cringing with joy right now, aren't you?

The MOVIES:
Top Gun. The Goonies. The Breakfast Club. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Grease. Sixteen Candles. Splash. ET. Ghostbusters. Beetlejuice. I mean, do I even need to go on? My love for cheesy, quirky, cult classic movies would fuel many a movie binge.

The MUSIC:
Madonna. Duran Duran. Lionel Richie. Michael Jackson. Billy Idol. Prince. Cyndi Lauper. Flock of Seagulls. The Cure. Any and all 80s metal bands. Phil Collins. Sigh. Those were the days. The 80s station on Pandora gets much play at my house.

The HAIR:
I have the perfect hair for the 80s, haha. Big, poofy, frizzy hair. Ahhh. I'd be in heaven. Somebody get me some hairspray!!

The TOYS:
Teddy Ruxpin. My Little Pony. Care Bears. Cabbage Patch Kids. Transformers. Simon. Lite Brite. Don't judge me. I would totally go back to the 80s just to play with the cool toys. :)

Case closed. 1980s wins, hands down. :)

What time period would you choose? We want to hear all about it!

  1. Great answer. I'd also love to "re" live the 80's, this time as an adult. I'd rock the hell out of some hypercolor.

  2. Funny as I picked on the 80's fashion, but gosh reading your post brings back awesome memories for me. Must admit I love Ferris, and I had forgotten about Splash, I loved that movie. My daughters actually sleep with my old carebears. #WODW

  3. I almost went with the 80's, but then had to go with the 1950's. The 80's does hold some of my absolute favorite movies. You named a lot of them. I love the music too. Loved this prompt :) *e*

  4. Absolutely loved your post. Can't say I'd personally ever want to re-live the 80's though (except for living abroad and having my children - that I wouldn't change for the world).

  5. I would have loved to live int he 80's! I was born in the 80's as well so I didn't get to really enjoy it.

  7. "Splash" is one of my all-time favorite 80s movies! I love young Tom Hanks. Heck, I love Tom Hanks at all ages. :)

  9. Right?! We need a time machine, so we can experience it properly. :)

  10. This post makes me realize what a non-innocent childhood I had. Haha! You know what some of my favorite 80s movies were? Purple Rain, Loverboy, Colors...

Cause movies about sweaty over-sexed musicians, male prostitutes, and gangs in LA are totally for children! Someone call CPS!

  11. Lite Bright!! YES!! i think the 80's would be super fun. I'm in your boat of not being old enough to have really truly experienced them. Would certainly be fun to go back to those days :)

  12. I have a friend who was an 80's wild child. She has the most awesome pics of her hair styles. I'd love to have that AND I want the My Little Pony I never got! I brought one for my little girl last year and she couldn't care less but I combed its hair...I still sing the song...

  13. I'd still choose the 90's. Life was simpler but also progressive. There was the dawn of the internet and computers become more common but we still have had our fair share of the outdoors.

This is a great read, Mia. :)

    Enjoy your weekend.
