Clean Up on Aisle 12

We generally go grocery shopping once every week.  With two growing boys, a hubby with a bottomless pit for a stomach, and a giant dog who eats like a horse, we HAVE to go grocery shopping every week.  We usually don't leave the store without spending $250+ each trip. Blah.  So I always try to have my coupons and list handy so that we only buy what we need and save as much money as we can.
But every once in a while, when I'm by myself, I like to wander up and down each aisle... just to see if we need anything.  And the answer is usually always yes, haha. Hubs hates when I want to do this because he'd much rather that our bank account not take such a hit. :)
Seriously, though... sometimes going grocery shopping by yourself can be a mini-vacation for us moms, am I right?  Nobody throwing a tantrum, or trying to touch everything, or wanting everything that catches their eye.  Just complete and utter silence. :)
Anybody else like grocery shopping alone?  What's your mini-vacation like?

  1. I hate grocery shopping but going by myself is so nice as long as someone (umm, Matt) is home to help put it all away! haha

  2. We don't have kids yet but I actually enjoy Kyle going with me only because I hate pushing the cart haha.

  3. The grocery store is my favorite place! It's seriously the only shopping (besides Target) that I really enjoy. I think it's because I get to pick out seriously yummy things!

  4. Amen!! I always get more junk food than I need though... Sometimes it's good to have a moderator :)

  5. I would LOVE to be able to go with both Jarrod & Quinn, but she won't allow it. She won't sit in the cart long enough for us to get it done, so he'll stay home with her (or sometimes grandma will if I want to go while he's at work) and I'll just knock everything out in one shot. It is easier to not get junk food when he's not with me, though.

  7. I agree. It is totally like a mini vacation. Soo nice to just nonchalantly peruse the aisles. And see what we just HAVE to get ;-)

  9. I'm not a mom, but I definitely understand the importance of grocery shopping by yourself.

And no lie, I spent $254 at the store last night. And that was with the coupons. Wah.

  10. Oh man, I HATE grocery shopping period, but I hate it even more if I have to go alone. I know, I'm weird :) Now Target on my own (where I don't have to buy any groceries...since that's where we get them) where I'm able to peruse the women's clothing and home goods in peace with a Starbucks in hand? That's my idea of a mini-vacation!

  11. I cannot remember the last time I shopped w/o the kids. It's ok though, I don't mind them along. My mini vaca is being able to read a book without being interrupted. It doesn't happen often. ;)

  12. No kids for us yet either, and to be honest I hate grocery shopping....so the hubby have a set system. Since I do all the laundry and most of the house cleaning he has to grocery shop, LOL!!! My idea of a mini vaca is just reading my favorite books or magazines in our room alone....

  13. I getcha! Although you know I don't have kids, I love just taking my time. I do like [even though we don't live together] shopping with Jason though. It's just nice to have that extra time with him. :) Plus, we're so goofy together when we're out.

  14. I hear you! I have four children and sometimes just an hour or so away is all you need to recharge. And being that close to chocolate can't hurt!
