Fit and Healthy... or not so much

Well, good morning, lovely people!

I was absolutely exhausted yesterday, so of course I'm a day late (and many dollars short) for Fit and Healthy Friday, but I wanted to share some goals I had for the month and my progress (or lack thereof!).

1) Drink more water.
I've had this goal for awhile actually.  I'm perpetually dehydrated.  I can't tell you how many times I've been yelled at by doctors (even hospitalized while I was pregnant!) because I wasn't drinking enough water.  I seriously hate water.  But I know that I need it and I need to be better about drinking it.  I've been horrible about drinking water this past month.  But I'm going to resolve to do better.  Whatever I drink for the day, I want 80% of my beverage to be water.  I don't think I could ever give up my morning coffee or my Coke with lunch.  But other than that, I should be able to drink water.  Right??

2) Make dinner at least 5 nights a week.
Yea... no.  With hubs working a gazillion hours the past few weeks, I've been so tired and stopping to get drive-thru or ordering takeout has pretty much been the name of the game.  That plus not having time to go grocery shopping means not really having much in the house to make. Le sigh. I *WILL* do better next month. I will.

3)  Set aside time every evening to prep lunches and snacks for work.
I have been HORRIBLE at doing this.  Every night after the kids go to bed, all I want to do is sleep.  Or read.  The thought of going to the kitchen and trying to figure out what to make for lunch the next day has seemed too overwhelming.  I don't know what's wrong with me lately.  I'm just so tired all the time. :(

Well, there you have it.  My grade for the past month - a big, fat F!  But April is a new month.  I'm going to do better.  I'm going to do meal planning again so that we always have a plan for dinner.  I'm going drink enough water that I turn into a fish. Haha.

How did you guys do with your food/fitness goals this month?  Hopefully better than I did!!!!
Hope you all have a great weekend and a Happy Easter!

Things My Daddy Taught Me

I'm sitting here catching up on The Voice, waiting for my laundry to be done.  And every time I see one of the contestants with their father, I get a little weepy. And I think, how incredibly lucky these people are to have their loving dads by their sides.

My dad has always been my best friend.  Growing up, there wasn't a single soul who could comfort me and support me and understand me like my dad.  And he's taught me so, so much - about life, about being a parent, everything.

So I thought I'd share with you guys some things that my dad has taught me.  Sometimes without even knowing he was doing it.

-Be loyal to the ones you love.  Love them, fight for them, try your hardest to make them happy.

-Think for yourself.

-Don't take crap from anybody.  Accept the treatment you deserve, or else you deserve the treatment you accept.

-But at the same time, pick your battles.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  Save your energy for the things that matter most to you.  The squeakiest mouse might get the cheese... but you don't even like cheese, so who cares? ;)

-Being a good parent means being there.  Listening.  Supporting.  I can't tell you how fulfilling it is to feel "heard"... no matter the issue.  When other people would blow me off, or put their priorities elsewhere, I could always count on my dad to be there for me.  Still can.

-Keep your promises.  Be reliable.  Do what you say you will do.  You have a very short window to make a good impression and your reputation always precedes you.

-The little moments mean everything.  Sharing a laugh together, going on a long car ride in contented silence, a hug after a hard day.  You don't need a million bucks to make someone feel special.  But being there for them will surely make them feel like a million bucks.

I could go on for quite a long time, but I'll stop here.  Suffice it to say that I've learned so much from my dad and he's truly my best friend.  If my boys turn out to be anything like their grandpa, then I'll know I raised them right.

"None of you can ever be proud enough of being the child of such a father who has not his equal in this world - so great, so good, so faultless. Try, all of you, to follow in his footsteps and don't be discouraged, for to be really good in everything like him, none of you I am sure, will ever be. Try, therefore, to be like him in some points, and you will have acquired a great deal." - Queen Victoria of England

What can I say?  I'm a daddy's girl, and darn proud of it!

Tickle Me Pink

I just want you guys to know that I'm seriously a funny mofo.  Or at least... I appreciate reading funny things and looking at funny photos.  Totally the same thing, right?!  Which brings me to the reason for this post...

That's right... a post that will occur on Tuesdays... maybe not every Tuesday, but when it does happen, that day will surely be a Tuesday... about things that make me laugh.  And hopefully, they'll make you laugh, too! And who doesn't like laughing, amiright?

So, without further ado, let's kick this thing off, kiddies!

Seriously, Virginia... get your shingle together!

Yea... right... it's the snow's fault I'm not cleaning. Yep.

If you know me, you know the only thing I
love more than a corny joke is cheesy pickup line!

Miley... I just can't. I can't even take you seriously... yes, you've got some killer moves, but why? Why are you wearing that ridiculous costume?  And why, for the love of all that is holy, are you not wearing a bra??? But thank you for making me laugh.

Anything that Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake do is funny.  Anything.  This video cracks me up for no other reason than the phrase "license to sell hot dogs." You're welcome.

Oh this kid.  He asks me to do photo shoots with him at least 3 times a week. This is the result.

What's tickled you pink lately?

Growing Up

William is growing up so fast!  We moved him out of his crib this past Thursday and put him in a big boy bed and he absolutely loves it! When it's time for bed, he'll run into his room and say, "My bed! My NEW bed!" It's the cutest thing, and also makes me super sad. :(  My baby isn't a baby anymore!

Come follow along on Instagram

He's so independent now. "No, Mommy, I can do it!" he tells me all the time. Sniffle. But I take comfort in the fact that his favorite place to watch TV is still in my lap.  And I hope it stays that way for awhile.  I'm not ready for him to grow up yet!!

It's The Book Chat, Bay-beeeeeee!

I hope I'm not the only one who sang that title to the tune of "The Love Shack"!

Hi guys!!!!  It's been a little while since I joined Jessica from Sweet Green Tangerine for The Book Chat, so I'm super excited to do that today. Plus, one of my awesome friends, Erica from Looking to the Stars, is co-hosting, so of course it's a no-brainer! ;)

This week's topic:

I usually read 2 books at a time - one on my Kindle and one hard copy book.  Which is exactly what I'm doing now.

On my Kindle:
THE TWELVE by Justin Cronin.

"At the end of The Passage, the great viral plague had left a small group of survivors clinging to life amidst a world transformed into a nightmare. In the second volume of this epic trilogy, this same group of survivors, led by the mysterious, charismatic Amy, go on the attack, leading an insurrection against the virals: the first offensives of the Second Viral War. To do this, they must infiltrate a dozen hives, each presided over by one of the original Twelve. Their secret weapon: Alicia, transformed at the end of book one into a half human, half viral—but whose side, in the end, is she really on?"

Sooo excited to read this.  The Passage, the first book in the trilogy, was amazing.  And the virals mentioned here are like this weird cross between a vampire and a zombie.  Like a vampire with the lights on, but nobody's home.  Upstairs.  In its brain. haha.

On my Nightstand:
SIX YEARS by Harlan Coben

"Six years have passed since Jake Sanders watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for . . . but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for more than a decade, and with that fact everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart—and who lied to him—soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on carefully constructed fiction."

This whole premise just sounds creepy, lol.  Is the guy crazy and made up an entire relationship and 6 years worth of memories?  Or if Natalie actually existed, did she lie about who she was?  What is going on???? Haha, I can't wait to find out.

What are you guys reading????

Please share!!!! And come be my friend on Goodreads. :)

Welcome to Crazytown

Ugh.  Hormones are seriously whack.  I've been alternating between being ridiculously cheery and intensely sad for, like, NO reason.  Got home from work and watched Ellen and cried (there wasn't anything sad going on) and then laughed and then cried some more.

Does anybody else get like this, or is it just me?  I really want some ice cream.  Like a gallon of mint chocolate chip.  Nom nom.

It doesn't help that I haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks.  I can't sleep, so I stay up watching tv or reading.  And then my mind gets all worked up and I still can't sleep.  By the time I finally get sleepy, it's usually about 2 or 3 hours from the time my alarm will go off and usually not worth going to bed.

I need a spa getaway.  And if I could take all of you awesome folks with me, I would.
But since that's NOT going to happen, I have something that will hopefully make you smile!  My buddy, Cody, from Catching Cody K has an awesome giveaway to share with you.  Who doesn't like free stuff, right??  Enter below!

2 Thumbs Up and I Don't Give a...

Do you curse?  Say certain 4-letter words that aren't supposed to be uttered in mixed company?  Would your mom threaten to wash your mouth out with soap if she heard your language?  These days, it's hard to read a book, watch a tv show or movie, or even go to the mall without hearing some colorful language to say the least.  I myself am guilty of cursing like a sailor.  I'm not really sure where I picked it up from, seeing as my parents never really cursed in front of me growing up.

But with my 1 step program, YES, I said ONE step, you can overcome your Potty Mouth-itis.  Skeptical?  Here's how.

Generally, the reason that most people curse is to release stress.  They've made a mistake on an important document, or they've dropped a heavy box on their foot, or they've heard some rather unpleasant news.  And their first reaction may be to curse.  I think most people's brains are hard-wired to recognize those words as stress relievers.

So, how does this help you with your delicate situation?  Try my fool-proof method.

1)  Replace curse words with words that sound similar and require the same mouth movement.  For example, instead of saying a certain 4-letter word starting with S, you could instead say SHINGLE!  Maybe you're a little more rough around the edges and prefer to go for the gusto with the ever-popular F word.  Perhaps I could persuade you to replace it with FUNGUS!  These minor word substitutions trick your brain into thinking you've said something else.  And you still get the same stress-relieving effects without getting the stink eye from your grandma.

Wow, this bridge is scary!

And if you're one of those people who says, "oh my goodness, I think it's soooo impolite to swear, I never talk that way!" then I say BULLSHINGLE good for you.

With two impressionable young boys at home, who soak up all of my words like a sponge, I've had to come up with ways to be creative with my cursing.  So, if I can clean up my act, I have complete and utter faith that you can do it, too.

Because I'm not only the President of the "Don't Swear - Care!" club, I'm also a motherfungus member.

Goodnight, friends.

Cheers to the Weekend

I don't know about you guys, but I am *so* glad it's Friday.  It's not like I do anything super strenuous throughout the week, but this whole time change thing has really been kicking my buns.  I wake up in the mornings and just sit there for a few minutes, completely delirious, like - what time is it? Where am I? Why am I awake at this ungodly hour... oh wait... it really IS time for my alarm to go off.  haha.

The boys are playing right now, so I have a few minutes to myself to just sit and relax.  Which is always nice.  I don't really have any plans for the weekend, but those are usually the best kinds of weekends - no stress!  Charlie has been working nonstop lately, so I'm glad he's finally off tomorrow and we can all spend time together.  The boys miss him something awful when he's not home!  Oh... and I guess I miss him, too.  ;)

Anyway, I recently had the pleasure of participating in a book and nail polish swap and it was such a great experience!

My partner was Victoria from Mine to Live... with Faith, Hope, Love and Coffee and she's just amazing.

Check out the awesome loot she sent me:

One of my FAVORITE authors!

Pink nail polish is my absolute FAVE!

Notepads and stationery make my day! You should see the
bin in my room, I could open a store!

Of course, I loved all the stuff for ME, haha. But what really touched my heart was that Victoria included some small treats for my boys.  Her kindness may or may not have brought a tear to my eye!

Thank you so much, Victoria, for being an awesome swap partner and really taking the time to put together a package that you'd know that I and my boys would love!!! You are the best. :)

Hope everybody has a great weekend.  I'll be back on Sunday with some interesting things to tell you, so don't forget to come back! :)

Are You a Fashionista?

Hello friends! My name is Chelsea, the blogger behind Big, Beautiful & Broke! I also recently started a plus-size fashion blog with my friend, Sheri, called Full-Size Fashionista! Mia was kind enough to let me introduce you to our new blogging adventure!

After being in the blogging world for around six months, I found that I learned a lot about fashion, make-up, hair, etc. I love having my personal blog but I also wanted to start a blog with a focus on fashion and more specifically, plus-size fashion.

However, that doesn't mean that our blog is all "Real Woman Have Curves", yadda yadda. I believe that women are all beautiful, no matter their shape or size. Real woman are all shapes and sizes. The plus-size theme, is simply a reflection on my and Sheri's specific sizes. You are welcome to join in the fun, whether you are plus size or not.

So, what will you find when you visit Full-Size Fashionista??
Right now, I am working on putting together OOTD (outfit of the day) posts. I just recently bought a new camera and I am learning how to use it...once I get a grasp on it, you will see more OOTD posts.

Until then, we will talk about:

Favorite styles from our favorite stores:

And product reviews from Wantable, Ipsy Glam Bag and Little Black Bag:

And much, much more!! We would love to have you join us!!

Thanks so much to Chelsea for stopping by to talk about Full-Size Fashionista! I hope you guys stop by and visit and tell Chelsea that Mia sent you! Ciao!
