BLING in the New Year Swap and 5 For Five

Alright, folks.  Before I get to my 5 For Five for 2013, I want to reveal my BLING in the New Year swap loot. :)  Here we go:

My partner was Shellee.  She's actually my coworker as well and we had a little chuckle at the luck of being paired together.  But I'm glad we were because she's awesome. First, I'll show you what Shellee gave me:

Beautiful scarf, bangle bracelets, necklace, and scarf.  I loved it all, Shellee, especially the necklace! Thank you so much for being an awesome swapper! :)
And here's what I gave to Shellee:

Sorry for the pic, I took it on my phone and you
can't really see how beautiful the necklace is!

And here's what Shellee had to say about the swap, in her own words:
Hi! I’m Shellee.  I am fortunate enough to work with Mia on a daily basis (well 5 days a week).  We commiserate together over the office instant messenger and have bonded in our shared opinions of all the idiosyncrasies we put up with on a daily basis.  It’s a pretty comical environment.  This is my first blog as well as my first swap.  Mia was my Swap Buddy!  She is the most awesomest person ever!  How lucky can I get?!?  For my New Year’s Accessory Swap I received a beautiful black scarf with silver shiny polka dots (which I happen to be wearing today), much needed lip balm (to keep my lips soft, moist and kissable), and a beautiful silver/gray beaded necklace.  I love all of it.  I am so thankful to have such a wonderful coworker and swap buddy!  Happy New Year!
Isn't she awesome? I promise I didn't pay her anything to say those nice things. ;)
Link up your swap reveals here:
OK, and now on to my 5 For Five from last week:

1.)  Prepare and pack my lunches for the rest of the work week. SUCCESS! I brought my lunch every day with my trusty little tupperware containers, haha.

2.)  Start getting my list together of things I want to accomplish in 2013.  SUCCESS! Just stay tuned for the rest of the post... and you'll see what those things are! ;)

3.)  Make a list of books that I want to read for 2013.  SUCCESS!  I'll be posting my list in just a few days, so stay tuned for that.

4.)  Make 1 crock pot meal this week.  Fail.  BUT, can I count this as a partial success? Because I prepped and cooked meals like nobody's business this week! lol. I just cooked it the old-fashioned way instead of the crock pot.

5.)  Work on my mountain of laundry.  SUCCESS!  Notice I said "work on" the laundry, not finish haha. I've had loads going all weekend, but I'm still not done.  But hey, it's still a success in my book.

4 out of 5, not too bad, people!  And now this is normally where I would show you what my 5 For Five for this week would be. Except Jenn and Jess are doing something a little different.  This 5 For Five list is about things I want to accomplish during 2013.  Exciting!!

1.)  Told you I was making a list of books to read! :)  Again, stay tuned for that post in a few days.  Hoping to read at least 30 books.

2.)  Now, I already have a journal.  But I have written one entry in it.  I want to consistently write something, maybe not every day, but at least every week.  Just a place to capture my thoughts and silly things the kids say, etc.

3.)  I want to enjoy nature!  I want to get off my ass and get outside and take the boys out to play and explore.  Let them jump in puddles and look for bugs and all that good stuff lol.  I don't want them to become a part of the couch potato/video game/TV junkie generation.  They need good old-fashioned play. :)

4.)  Now I know what you're thinking... "Mia, what you do mean, 'fall in love'? You're married!" And you are absolutely correct.  But Hubs and I don't have a lot of time for each other and our relationship.  Our priorities generally are work and kids and then maybe if we have time left over do we think about squeezing in a few minutes together after the kids are in bed.  And I want to change that.  I want to fall in love with him all over again.  I want to do little nice things to remind him of how important he is to me, and that in the midst of the all the chaos, I'm always thinking of him.  I want the butterflies!

5.)  I'm a creature of habit.  I do the same thing, the same way, every day.  Whether it's what I eat, what I watch on TV, how I get dressed, etc.  I rarely venture from the beaten path.  But I am going to try something new and smash the comfort zone.  Not sure yet what it will be, but whenever I figure it out, you guys will surely hear about it. :)

What's on your 5 For Five list for 2013??

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! xo

Sunday Confessions v19

Good morning, friends!  It's Sunday, so I'm back linking up with the lovely Alyx!  I can't believe that December (and 2012) is almost over.  I feel like this year has really flown by and that I wasn't able to accomplish everything that I wanted to.  BUT 2013 is a brand new year and a fresh start, so it's all good.

But before we get to the New Year, I of course have some things I need to confess.  Ch-ch-check it out!

1.)  I want to cut my hair.  Again.  But it's cold and I need my hair to keep my neck warm. haha. It grows so dang fast. Just call me Cousin It.

2.)  I was really excited to get the Holiday VoxBox from Influenster... and then when I started looking at the stuff I received, I guess I just wasn't that impressed. :/

I don't really like berry oatmeal... Because I don't really eat oatmeal much.  But when I do, I'm much more of a maple brown sugar oatmeal girl.  And I like adding milk to oatmeal, not water, ick.

I have really curly hair, so I don't use a brush because brushes only make my hair super frizzy.  I mainly use combs.  The only time I use a brush is when I straighten my hair... and when my hair is straight, it's obviously dry, so this brush with its absorbent bristles wouldn't really do anything for me.  But it's pretty! lol.

So not a fan of nail stickers/decals. At all.

I don't use energy drinks, I'm strictly a caffeine girl.  But I definitely like the NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine. I don't wear lip gloss often, but I do on special occasions. I could rock it on a date night with the hubs!

:-/ I feel like a Scrooge, but I just didn't think the items were for me.  But don't get me wrong, I was glad for the opportunity to receive items to try for free!

3.)  I'm definitely suffering from holiday hangover.  The stress, the craziness - I'm just tired and kind of glad that it's almost over!

4.)  Hubs has to work on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (just like he did for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, le sigh), so we aren't doing anything, obviously.

I'm a little bummed, but at least I won't have to worry about finding an outfit and a babysitter, etc. No stress! haha. But the rest of you party animals, be safe out there!!

5.)  We watched "Ted" earlier today and that movie was hilarious! And I secretly want my teddy bear to be alive just like Ted. haha. Yes, I still have my childhood teddy.  His name is Kirby and I've had him since I was a baby. My plan was to pass Kirby on to one of the boys, but neither of them really showed any interest and have their own teddies that they love. So... guess I'll just keep him. ;)

What do you confess???

P.S. Come back tomorrow to see how I did on my 5 For Five and also for the BLING in the New Year swap reveal!

The Book Chat - Books I Got for Christmas

Photobucket
Well hello there, fellow bookworms! :)  I'm linking up with Jessica again for The Book Chat! This week's topic: books you got for Christmas.

So of course, I have to show this picture... AGAIN. Seriously, are you guys tired of seeing it yet? Haha. Well, that's too bad, because I'm so excited that I got the HARRY POTTER boxed set from my awesome MIL! Boom shaka laka! I'll have my face buried in these books for the foreseeable future!!! :)  I'm pretty sure you guys know what these books are about, so I won't bother with a synopsis.

I also got:

From my awesome brother-in-law and sister-in-law
Synopsis
Riveting and fast paced, In the Land of Blue Burqas depicts sharing the love and truth of Christ with women living in Afghanistan which has been called "the world's most dangerous country in which to be born a woman." These stories are honest and true. The harsh reality of their lives is not sugar-coated and that adds to the impact of the book. Through storytelling the author shows how people who don't know Christ come to see Him, His truth and His beauty. The stories provide insight into how a Jesus-follower brought Jesus' teachings of the Kingdom of God to Afghanistan. They reveal the splendor of Christ, the desire of human hearts, and that precious instance where the two meet.

Another book I received was:

Again from my awesome brother-in-law and sister-in-law

I'm obviously excited to try some recipes from this cookbook!  I know some people think Paula Deen's recipes are controversial, but ya know what, if it tastes good, sometimes ya just gotta eat it! :)

And now some books I got for myself! :)

I've read every single Stephen King book that has ever been written! Every short story, every compilation, every book written under pseudonym... he is absolutely my favorite author ever.  Now, I've already read The Stand, but it's such an epic journey of a book, I really wanted to read it again, and this cute little paperback version just called my name when I was at Barnes and Noble! :)

Synopsis:
A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge—Mother Abagail, the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a peaceful community in Boulder, Colorado; and Randall Flagg, the nefarious “Dark Man,” who delights in chaos and violence. As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them—and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.

I saw the movie not too long ago, but I've always been a book over movie kind of girl, so I'm excited to delve into this series!

Synopsis:
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

I have heard SO many great things about this book. I cannot wait to read it!! :)

Synopsis:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

There you have it, folks, my Christmas book haul. :) You'll definitely be seeing book reviews on the blog in the near future.

Oh, and this crazy kid and I made a visit to K.O. Jewelry today. Come check out some of Dom's latest quotes. He's such a cutie. :) And thanks to Kim for having us!

5 For Five - Or Day 11 of the 12 Days of Christmas

Merry Christmas Eve, lovelies! :) It's such a dreary, yucky day outside here, but that makes for good snuggling weather with my 2 little elves. :)  Can't wait for hubs to get home so we can get the kids in their Christmas pj's and put on a Christmas movie. And then the kids can open their stockings!! :)

FantasticallyAverage

So, once again I'm combining my 12 Days of Christmas series and the 5 For Five link up with Jessica and Jenn to show you my progress on my goals for the past week.

1.)  Create a jar of blessings. SUCCESS! I was going to make a really cute jar and decorate it, etc, blah blah. As we all know, mama (me) doesn't have a lot of spare time, so I make do with what I can find. Voila!

I give you my Kleenex box of blessings!

Hey, I didn't even have to cut a slit in it, because it already has one. WIN! ;)

2.)  Bake Christmas Cookies.  Fail. I just didn't get around to getting any ingredients. But I did make walnut fudge brownies, so... not a total loss. :) And my lovely friend Katie was nice enough to email me some cookie recipes that I so need to try!

3.)  Mail the rest of my Christmas cards. SUCCESS! :) But seriously, next year, I'm getting them out wayyy earlier. Too much stress leaving it to the last minute!

4.)  Make some type of Christmas craft. Yea... no. :( Maybe next year!

5.)  Get organized and make a file for Christmas card addresses.  I'll consider this a success, because I typed everything into a Word document. Is that as user-friendly as I want it to be? No, but at least it's all in one central location and alphabetized!

Alright, time for this week's goals. I'm going to try and keep it low-key. I'm tired.

1.)  Prepare and pack my lunches for the rest of the work week.  This should be relatively easy, since I'm only working Weds-Fri. And a good way to save some dinero!

2.)  Start getting my list together of things I want to accomplish in 2013. Not resolutions, necessarily, because I think that word has negative connotations. But just some goals. Goals are something to strive for, so that's positive, right? ;)

3.)  Make a list of books that I want to read for 2013. I have a few already, but of course, a few books is never enough!

These are at the top of the list! :)

4.)  Make 1 crock pot meal this week.  Saving money and saving time is the name of the game, folks! Wish me luck. :) You can find me on Pinterest searching for chicken crock pot recipes.

5.)  Work on my mountain of laundry. Not sure this goal is attainable, but... I'm gonna try. :) Wish me luck!!!!

What do you guys want to get accomplished this week?

12 Days of Christmas: Day 10 - Christmas Confessions Part 2

Hey there! I'm back, combining my 12 Days of Christmas series with Sunday Confessions, to bring you: Christmas Confessions - Part Deux. Haha.

1)  I confess that if I see that White Christmas or Miracle on 34th Street or Miser Brothers' Christmas is playing on tv again, I might crarf. That would be cry + barf, for those of you who don't watch The League. Because you're living under rocks. ;)

2)  I confess that if I see any more adults dressed as elves, I will not be responsible for my actions. What is wrong with you?! It's only cute when Will Ferrell does it, OK? So just... stop.

3)  I confess that I really try not to get sucked into the stupid games that stores play right before Christmas to get you to spend money. But I always fall for it! You know their "super" discounts for 30% off really means that they raised prices by 40% anyway, so you're not really saving anything. But even armed with that knowledge, they still manage to pry cold hard cash from my fingers with their shiny discount signs. Sigh. I'm a sucker.

4)  I confess that this will be the first year in a really long time that I will not be going shopping the day after Christmas. Gasp! It's always been a tradition, but I didn't want to take the day off of work, and we don't really have the money for a big shopping spree anyway. But it does make me a little sad. Sniffle.

5)  I confess that I'm super excited for Christmas Eve tomorrow! I can't wait to put the kids in their brand new Christmas pj's and snuggle on the sofa and watch a Christmas movie together tomorrow night and let the boys have the treats in their stockings. :)  There's nothing like experiencing the joy of Christmas through the eyes of your children.

Happy Sunday! Ciao!
