My Bucket List

I think every person should have a bucket list.  Be it short or long, easily attainable or challenging, or even maybe a little out there, we should all have a list of goals or things that we want to accomplish.

So, because I know that you can't go another minute without knowing what's on my Bucket List, here it is. :)

Side note: I'll update this post as I accomplish things, or add to the list if I think of something else.  But you can always see my progress at the "Bucket List" tab at the top of the blog.

-Create a bucket list (what? Any self-respecting nerd knows that you have to have one thing on your list that you've already done, so you can cross it off and feel accomplished!)

-Travel to Italy.  Rome, Venice, Florence, the works!

-Become a published writer.  I'm not sure what form that will take - novelist, article writer, author, poet.  But anything that has to do with writing!

-Get a tattoo (sorry, Dad)

-Travel to Rio and see the famous Christ the Redeemer statue.

-Travel to New York and see a Broadway show.

-Eat at Ben's Chili Bowl in DC.

-Be in the audience for a Conan O'Brien show.

-Go to BlogHer conference next year (2013) - gotta save up some ca$h!

-Add a shower to our master bathroom.  A giant soaking tub is great for bathing two little boys, but let's be honest, how many of us moms have time to take a bath?!

-Take the boys to DisneyWorld. They both love Mickey.

-Meet Stephen King and get his autograph.

-Take the boys to the zoo

-Learn to speak Italian fluently.  I've dabbled here and there with trying to learn it, but it's time to get serious!

-Travel to Canada.

- Go back to Hawaii and take the kids

-Take a family vacation to the Outer Banks next year (2013)

-Finally clean out and decorate our spare bedroom and bathroom

-Turn the basement into a play area for the boys.  Mama wants her living room back!!

-Take a trip with my dad to Florida to visit all our old haunts (Shorty's, here we come!)

-Renew our vows for our 10-year wedding anniversary.  Have a mini-ceremony with our family since we eloped the first time.

-Get back into doing wedding/event planning part-time.

-Have this blog reach 10,000 page views

-Get a little lap dog once the boys are bit older (shh, don't tell the hubs!).  I'm thinking Chihuahua! ;)

-See Dane Cook, Lewis Black and/or Louis CK perform live

What's on your bucket list, my Chaos Crew?  I'd love to hear about it!

Nutty and Nifty Thursdays - One day late

Hi all!  Sorry this is one day late - I was exhausted yesterday!  But better late than never, right?

-The price of daycare!  Lordy gee whiz.  It's like having a second mortgage.  But it's time, the boys are ready.  Dom tells me every day that he wants to go to school.

-Extremely rude and incompetent customer service people.  Xerox, I'm looking at you.  I shouldn't have to call you 3 times to fix the copier.  I mean, seriously.

-The fact that there are no Federal holidays in August.  Congress, can you get on that, please? Can't we aim for one holiday (at least) per month?

-This heat wave.  I'm over it.  Can we have fall now, please?  I'm ready for pumpkins and colorful leaves and sweaters.

-Dom says to me the other day: "Mommy, do you  have a penis?"   Me: "No baby, only boys have that.  Mommy is a girl."   Dom: *thinks for a  minute* "So what do girls have?"  Me: "Go ask your daddy."  Teehee!

-Going to Hobby Lobby for the first time with my bestie the other night.  We had a good time looking at the signs with funny sayings on them.  And I picked up some canvasses for this project that I wanna try that is all over Pinterest:

-I entered the 500 Follower Giveaway hosted by The Fontenot Four blog and I won a large ad space on The NY Melrose Family blog. First blog giveaway that I entered and I won something! Woop!

-Just generally feeling in better spirits all around lately.  Things have been going well and I'm grateful for that.

What's nutty or nifty in your life these days?

And the Award Goes To...

As I mentioned in my last post, Melissa from Figuring it Out as we Grow nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award and the Sunshine Blogger Award.  How cool is she, right?!  Anyway, recipients of these awards are supposed to pass them on to deserving bloggers and I'm really excited to do that! But first, these awards require you to share some things about yourself.  So here goes:

The Versatile Blogger Award asks you for 7 random facts about yourself:

1) I'm an only child.  I hated it growing up, but now, I kinda like it. :)

2) We have 2 boys, but the girl name we picked out in case one of them was a girl, was Sofia Victoria.

3) My favorite author of all time is Stephen King.  I could read each and every one of his books over and over again!

4) My hubby and I met in high school, Chemistry class to be exact. ;)

5) If I could travel somewhere in the world that I've never been before, I would go to Italy.

6) I have a tendency to be too nice, even when people don't deserve it.

7) I'm extremely SHY when meeting new people.  But once you get to know me, I never shut up!

The Sunshine Blogger Award has a set of standard questions:

1) What would you most like to change about yourself?
I would like to have smaller feet.  Lol.

2) What is your theme song?
I don't have a theme song for myself, but my favorite theme song for a tv show was from The Sopranos!

3) What is one part of your life, a memory, an action, etc, that you wish you could surgically remove from your brain?
Wow, this is deep.  Methinks a little too deep for my light-hearted blog. Let's skip this one, shall we? :)

4) What generation do you wish you'd been a part of?
The 80s.  Yes, I'm an 80s baby, but I was too young to really remember any of it.  I would have loved to have been an adult in the 80s and gone to a Prince concert.

5) What was your favorite childhood toy?
Kirby, my stuffed teddy bear.  My aunt gave it to me when I was a baby and I still have him.  The best teddy bear that ever existed!

6) What is your favorite household chore?
Um, none of them?? Lol. I suppose if I had to pick one, it would be vacuuming.  A machine that cleans up your carpet for you, I'm all for it.  :)

7) Do you Twitter?
I do indeed and I like it.

8) Any goals?
My goal is to be a writer.  I've always loved writing.  But if you're looking for a more realistic goal (ha!), then I would like to win the lottery.  What?  It's realistic.

9) Do you really drink margaritas all the time?
Who in the world dreamt up this question? No, I never drink margaritas, I cannot stand tequila.

10) What's the ugliest car you've ever driven?
None.  I loved all of my cars, I've had a few different Fords and Mazdas and each one was awesome. :)

Well, there you have it.  Lots of useless information about yours truly.  But now, let's get to nominating some bloggers.  I'm going to follow Melissa's lead and give out both awards at once:

1) A Day in a Joyful Life
2) It Takes a Village
3) A Lazy Crazy Life
4) Ape's Eats
5) {{blabbering thoughts}}
6) Ellen B Cookery
7) Life Revolves Around Them
8) Once a Miss Now a Queen
9) Shipwrecked On Fabulous Island
10) The Chaos Which is My Life (hey, this sounds like me!)

Check out these lovely ladies' blogs, because they're all awesome and I stalk them all the time. :)

Now, here are the rules for the recipients:

  1. Create a post for the Versatile Blogger Award
  2. Add the Versatile Blogger Award
  3. In the same post, thank the blogger(s) who gave you the award and put a link back to their blogs.
  4. Nominate 15 fellow bloggers the Versatile Blogger Award and inform each nominated blogger by posting a comment on each blog
  5. In the same post, share 7 completely random pieces of information about yourself
  6. In the same post, include this set of rules
1.  Include Sunshine Blogger award logo in a post or on your blog page.
2. Answer (10) questions about yourself.
3. Nominate 10-12 other fabulous bloggers.
4. Link your nominees to the post and comment on their blog, letting them know about the award.
5. Share the love and link the person who nominated you.

Pass it on!!

Key Lime Parfaits

In keeping with my cool summer treats theme, and everything lime of course, I made these Key Lime Parfaits tonight, with my trusty hubby helper, naturally. :) This recipe is from the latest issue of Taste of the South magazine

-2 8oz pkgs cream cheese, softened
-1 cup sweetened condensed milk
-1/2 cup bottled Key lime juice
-3 cups frozen nondairy whipped topping, thawed (we used Cool Whip)
-2 cups graham cracker crumbs
-2 tablespoons melted butter
-1/4 cup sugar
-More graham cracker crumbs and lime wedges for garnish

1) In a large bowl, beat cream cheese at medium-high speed with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add sweetened condensed milk and Key lime juice, beating at medium speed until smooth.  Fold in whipped topping. Cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 1 day (we refrigerated for several hours).

2) Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

3) In a medium bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and sugar.  Spread in a thin layer on a rimmed baking sheet.

Hubby is a graham cracker crushing NINJA!

4) Bake until lightly golden, 7 to 10 minutes. Let cool completely on pan.

5) In the bottom of 8 (9-oz) plastic cups (got these at Walmart for cheap!), place 2 tablespoons graham cracker mixture (we just eyeballed it). Top with Key lime mixture. Repeat layers, topping with additional graham cracker crumbs and a lime wedge if desired.

Yield: 8 servings.

If you are not able to find Key lime juice at the grocery store (like me!), you can order it on Amazon.  Click here to find the one I bought.

Any recipes that you see here on The Chronicles of Chaos are also available at the "Recipes" tab at the top of the blog. Enjoy!

***Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to Melissa from Figuring it Out as we Grow for nominating me for not one, but TWO blog awards - The Versatile Blogger Award and The Sunshine Blogger Award.  I'm so ecstatic!  These are my first blog awards EVER. :)  Melissa, I can't tell you how much it means to me as a new blogger to receive these awards.  More on the awards tomorrow, as I pay it forward to other deserving bloggers!

Sunday Confessions

Happy Sunday, all! I'm linking up with Alyx from Every Day is a New Adventure for Sunday Confessions.  Here goes:

1) I think we've established this already, but I still think it bears repeating one more time - I'm OBSESSED with Pinterest.  I can't stop looking at it.  I drool over the food/drink pins, and I fantasize about all of the home decor pins, I laugh uncontrollably at all of the inappropriately awesome humor pins.  Pinterest rules.  Seriously. Check it out and get on the Pinterest train already, if you haven't - are you living under a rock??. :)

2) I am humbled and overwhelmed by how truly welcoming the blogging community is.  Everyone I have talked to has been wonderful and I have to say, I'm hooked. For life. Really, I'll still be blogging when I'm 80.  Be prepared for gourmet prune juice recipes, this is your 50 year warning.  Just saying.

3) I love spending time with my daddy.  There is no other person on the planet who gets me the way he does. We can communicate with one look, one gesture, whatever.  I can call him up and be silly and act like I'm 12 and he'll laugh along with me and never make me feel stupid.  I have the BEST dad on the planet and I want everyone to know it!

4) I hate the Smurfs.  Dom's new movie obsession is the Smurfs, so of course we watch it every day at least twice.  They just creep me out.  Number 1, they're blue.  Number 2, Papa Smurf has 99 sons and 1 daughter.  But how?  Is there a Mama Smurf somewhere?  Number 3, if those Smurfs are all his children, then why do the boy smurfs always hit on Smurfette?  I mean, ew.

5) I want to get a tattoo.  (Don't read this last part, Dad).  I have always wanted to get a tattoo of a black crow with its wings outstretched.  Something about it speaks to me. But I've also recently become enamored with peacock feathers, so maybe a small peacock feather on my foot would be cute?  I don't know.  I just really want to get one, and I want it to be something I can live with when I'm 80. :)

Happy Sunday, Chaos Crew! (yes, I just made that up, but it's kinda cool, right?)

Nutty and Nifty Thursdays - 7/19/12

Hi everybody!  This is the latest installment of Nutty and Nifty Thursdays.  If you missed last week's post, check it out here.

-The amount of lettuce that our local Thai restaurant puts in the carryout dishes.  Seriously?  Nobody wants that much lettuce, I spend more time picking it out than I do actually eating the food.  Do I wook wike a wabbit? ;)

-The amount of sleep (or lack thereof) that I've been getting lately.  My mind never shuts off, I'm always thinking about something, most of the time it's not anything important that I need to be awake for, but my brain doesn't care.  Counting sheep, drinking warm milk, none of that crap works for me.  And  I can't take sleeping pills because they knock me out for 14 hours and I'll never be able to get up when the kids need me or to go to work.  It's OK... I'll sleep when I'm dead... right?

-How quickly my kids wreck the living room after I've just cleaned it.  I cleaned up the other day and then sat down to browse my magazine and when I looked up a minute later, they were using the cushions as a slide.  And then put all the pillows on the floor and were playing "lily pad" - which I assume is Dom-speak for "leap frog." :)  Boys!

-My newly cleaned and re-arranged bedroom.  When I tell you that our bedroom was a disaster, oh man, do I mean it.  But it looks so lovely now.  And I finally got my clothes-horse of a hubby to get rid of all of his clothes that he never wears (some with the tags still on!).  The man has more clothes than anybody I know!  So now we have room in our closet.  It's just wonderful!

-My grande, extra-hot Mocha from Starbucks this morning.  I so needed it after a long, sleepless night last night.

-Getting a totally unexpected certificate of commendation award at work this morning.  It's so nice to be recognized! :)

-Taking time for ME yesterday.  Got a pedicure, eyebrow wax, and haircut.  And getting to have dinner and see "Magic Mike" with my fave last night.  Can I just say that Channing Tatum is a beautiful man?  I mean, seriously.  The movie was kind of weird, but I could watch him dance all day.  Meowww.

And that concludes this edition of Nutty and Nifty Thursdays.  Share yours below! :)

Coconut Lime Yogurt Pops

This heat we've been having lately has been killer.  So naturally, I've been drooling over browsing all the yummy popsicle recipes on Pinterest.  There are so many of them out there, that it was hard to choose one to try.  But then I saw these Coconut Lime Yogurt Pops:

If you know me, you know that I love anything lime.  I could rub lime juice on all my pulse points and use it as perfume, I just love it.  So I knew I had to try these.  I made a few little changes, though, of course.

What you'll need:

-1 can unsweetened coconut milk (Thai Kitchen, yea baby! haha)

-1 cup coconut-flavored Greek yogurt (I used Yoplait - 2 portions because each portion is 1/2 cup)

-1/3 cup powded sugar (I ended up using 1/2 cup, because 1/3 cup was still too tart, but you can adjust it to your taste)

-zest of 3 small limes (I zested all 4 limes, actually... hey why not? It was fun and it smells so good!)

-juice of 4 small limes
Aww, look at hubby helping me!  Told you he loves it. :)

Combine zest, juice, yogurt, and powdered sugar in a small bowl. In a food processor (I used a blender!), add the unsweetened coconut milk and Greek yogurt and blend well.

Transfer to a large measuring cup and pour roughly a 1/4 cup into each mold (I didn't do this part, just poured it directly into the popsicle mold from the blender and eyeballed it).

Place sticks into the center and pop the molds in the freezer for no less than 3 hours or overnight (we did them overnight, and we didn't use popsicle sticks, I ordered these cool popsicle molds from Amazon).

Here's the final product:

See those flecks of lime zest? DROOL.

See the cute hubby? DROOL.
I soooo recommend these if you love coconut and especially lime.  What have you made lately that made you drool? :)

Target Finds

I love Target.  And I do mean love.  I could spend hours there.  My 2 favorite sections at Target are the home decor and office supplies sections.  Speaking of office supplies - pencils, pens, notebooks, dry erase boards, planners... I'm a sucker.  I've bought so many office supplies lately that I could start my own store.  I just can't help it.  I love the potential of a blank notebook or a brand new pen... it just says "Hey, create something with me!"  Nerdy, yes, but still true nonetheless. :)

Here are some things I picked up today.  P.S., Don't tell my hubby.

Pens, dry erase board, composition notebooks, leatherbound journal, and my fave GIANT post-it notes.  I plan on using these for Dom and Will, so that they can color without the paper moving all around.  Genius, right?

Organizer to keep track of my scissors!  I can never find a pair of scissors when I need them.  Plus, I can keep my new nifty pens in there.  And a bin to keep all of my paper clips, binder clips, etc.

Colorful pens, 50 cent spiral notebooks (LOVE!), another composition notebook (purple this time, a girl needs variety, OK?).

And this cute 3 ring binder.  All of these spiral notebooks need to go somewhere, right?  So now I can keep them all in one place and not worry that one of my boys is going to take one and hide it behind the sofa (been there, done that) or rip all of the pages out (sigh).

Speaking of boys, what were they doing while I was splurging on office supplies, you ask? Oh, just playing with their new toys (a little police car complete with lights and sirens for Dom and a little airplane and bouncy ball for Will).  What?  You didn't think they'd let me stroll around Target leisurely without some kind of bribe distraction, did you?

I'm sure there will be more posts about my Target Finds.  Because I go there every weekend.  And if you love Target as much as I do, make sure you check out the Totally Target blog for the latest deals at Target.  They tell you what Target and manufacturer coupons are out there so that you can maximize your savings.  I love, love, love them.

Share what you've bought lately for yourself that makes you smile.

*Disclaimer: Target has not endorsed, nor paid me anything for, this post.  But I pay them a heck of a lot of money every week, so maybe they should! Ha. :)
