12 Days of Christmas: Day 9 - Family

Hello there! It's Day 9 of the 12 Days of Christmas!

Today, I want to talk about family. The definition of "family" has definitely evolved for me over the years. Of course, as a kid, when you thought of family, you most likely thought of your parents, siblings if you have any, grandparents, etc.  But for me, being an only child, and growing up with divorced parents, it was a little harder to have that sense of family. I've met my maternal grandfather once, and other than him, I've never known any of my grandparents. I have family overseas, but obviously we don't get to see each other often, with finances and immigration/visa laws being what they are.

But when I think of family now, I still of course think of my parents, especially my dad who is my best friend.
But now my family has expanded to include my husband, who has been there for me through everything, and my beautiful children who make me smile every single day. I've gained brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc by marriage who are the funniest and most supportive group of people. And I also call some of my friends my family because there just isn't any other word to describe them and how wonderful they are.

I guess I'm just feeling blessed today and that I've come a long way from that lonely girl I used to be. :)

What does family mean to you?

  2. Love this. To me growing up in a BIG family - you can be invisible. Now being older I like that family just evolves. We have an 'extended' family through the military and people we gravitate too. So happy to hear how content you are with your beautiful family. Great post. <3, Amy
