12 Days of Christmas: Day 6 - Christmas Memories

What's your most favorite Christmas present that you ever received?

I know you guys are going to laugh, but for me, it was a Sony CD-walkman.  I thought I was soooo cool, that I could listen to my CDs on-the-go. This was obviously back when I was in high school. CD-walkmans were the hot new item, you were not cool if you still had a cassette tape walkman. Haha. I kept that CD-walkman until college, and then it finally crapped out and stopped working. But that was about the time that the first generation iPods were coming out and of course I needed one of those. But I digress.

The reason I loved the CD-walkman so much is because I spent many hours on road trips with my mother and step-father, sitting in the backseat. I'm an only child, so there wasn't anybody to talk to or play games with in the back, it was just me and my lonesome.  And I love to read, but I cannot read while I'm in the car, it makes me nauseous. So I quickly built up a large CD library to keep me company on those long road trips. My mom (who is Thai) would normally be listening to Thai music (and singing at the top of her lungs), which I thought was super lame, so of course I wanted to listen to Nirvana or The Cranberries or Smashing Pumpkins or something uber cool. :)

I remember in college going to the gym and trying to take my CD-walkman with me on the treadmill, and it would skip every time my feet would stomp down... haha. Made for a very interesting listening experience.

What was your favorite Christmas present?? Or what are you looking forward to getting this year? Please share, I'd love to hear your thoughts! :)

  1. Aww, I loved my Discman too! It's so amazing to see how far technology has come since our youth :). I had a brother and my Discman was my lifeline on long road trips...and short ones.

  2. Hahaha. I remember getting this AWESOME purple walkman from Target when I was like in 6th grade or something. It was the coolest thing ever! Then when we went on those long field trips where we got to take the fancy buses, I could bring that along with my CD book filled with the awesome sounds of Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync...Come on now, I was 11!! hahaha. :) [Okay, and I totally still listen to them all.]
