Do One Nice Thing. Or Several.

Source

Have you ever had someone do something nice for you, and not expect anything at all in return?  They just did it because they wanted to?  Doesn't that just make you smile and feel good inside?

I love doing stuff like that to brighten someone's day.  It could be a friend, or it could be a complete stranger.

Hold the door for someone.  Compliment someone on what they're wearing.  Pay for someone's food behind you at the drive-thru (my sister-in-law and mother-in-law did this for me once at Starbucks and they didn't even realize it was me behind them!).  Offer to help someone carry something.  Mow your neighbor's lawn.  Send flowers just because.  Write a nice letter.  The possibilities are endless.

The inspiration behind this post is because I've been feeling so down lately and someone went out of their way to do something nice for me (I won't embarrass them on here, I pinky promised!) and it totally made my day.  And when I thanked them profusely, they said, "I know you'd do the same for me."  And OK, maybe I teared up a bit, I've turned into such a cryer, ick. :)  But it really did put me in better spirits and I'm grateful to them for that.

So I'm going to try and remember to do one nice thing (or several) every day.  And I hope you will, too. I think we could all use a little more sunshine in our lives.

What's the nicest thing someone has ever done for you??  Or that you've ever done?

OK, this concludes the puppies, rainbows, and unicorns portion of the blog.  At least for today. ;)

  1. What a lovely post! The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me? Sent me the very first flowers I ever received with a note saying: Just because you deserve them.

The nicest thing I've ever done? Hmmm, buying a warm winter coat for a co-worker going through a tough time.

  2. Love this! I have had a lot going on in recent months with my husband's health. It has been very stressful dealing with it on top of working. My coworkers put together a gift basket for me with chocolate, candles, and a massage gift card. It completely surprised me, but made my day!

  3. Love this post! If more people just did nice things for others, the nice-ness would spread! A man tried to pay for me food one time in a drive-through, but it turns out the restaurant accidentally charged him for the wrong meal..haha! I'm a bit spoiled with my husband though, because he's constantly doing nice things so I don't have to get up to do them myself. He's a special one :)

  4. Mia, I am loving this. :) I think even just the smallest things mean the most. Coming from a place that is so fast pace and everyone is always in a hurry, it's hard to see past that at times. Just yesterday I was at the Dollar Tree and only had about three items. The man in front of me with his son had a bit more, so first...he let another woman go who just had a few things and then he looked at me and said, "Go ahead." It is moments like that when you can see the good in someone and just appreciate the small moments in life. :)
